About us

The Siberian Husky Club of Greater Greenville

In February 1992, a group of Siberian folks got together around a grooming table at a Greenville, SC dog show and decided to try to form a Siberian club.  Plans were made to and the Siberian Husky Club of Greater Greenville was formed on March 11, 1992 with a membership of 37.  The first elected club Officers were:  President Dixie Page,  V.President Gladys Sumner,  Rec. Sect. Noreen Rosi,  Cor. Sect. Shirley Boudeau,  Tresurerer Marie Dickson, and Board members Bill Lawrence, Tim Dorn, and Loreen Wunderlich.

During the first four years the club held seminars by Kathleen Kanzler, Jean Fournea, Peggy Kohler, and Pauline Price.  These seminars were held in conjunction with the Greenville February circuit where we also sponsored Siberian matches.  Other activities were  school visits with the dogs, two successful auctions, Christmas parties with awards for member accomplishments, Picnics and hikes with the dogs, Radio discussion on dog legislation. 4H program on dog card and activities, active rescue unit.

By 1996, our membership had gone down due to members moving out of area, loss of interest of new people and death of several active members.  Below the required threshold of active members , the club was no longer able to apply to AKC for specialty status.

In 2007 the Siberian Husky Club of Greater Greenville reorganized and successfully hosted the required AKC matches to become a fully fledged club. The Inagural Siberian Husky Specialty was successfully held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center. Check out our 2021 Specialty page for more information about this year's event!

We regularly participate in Responsible Owners Days, and members participate in a variety of activities. Please stop by to say hello at any of these events and learn how you, too, can become involved in the Siberian husky breed!
